Kevin Brightman showcases mesmerising album of light and wonder in "All Is Well”

Updated: Jan 3, 2022

When it comes to inspirational music, composer, and pianist extraordinaire, Kevin Brightman is authentic. Born and raised in the musical mecca of Harlem New York, Brightman’s love for music started at an early age thanks to exposure by his older siblings to the sounds of Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, Parliament-Funkadelic, Earth Wind and Fire, and The Isley Brothers.

By the age of seven, Kevin had the ear and talent for becoming an accomplished pianist. Early in his career, he took part in the prestigious Roland Hayes Society named after the acclaimed Roland Wiltse Hayes, the noted lyric tenor, and composer. Classically trained, Kevin’s playing took him to The United Nations, Cami Hall, the Apollo Theater, Birdland, Museum of Natural History, The Guggenheim Museum, Brooklyn Museum, and the historic Abyssinian Baptist Church of New York. The ever-eclectic Brightman used his classical training to also master Jazz and Gospel genres that served as the springboard for the formation of the musical ensemble, Forever Forward with his friend, vocal arranger, and songwriter, Derek Gibbs.

In 2009, Forever Forward released “All Is Well”, its nine-track CD filled with stunning acoustic instrumentals, blissful piano chords, and vocals that touch the soul. What is most impressive about this CD is the symbiotic marriage of Kevin’s piano phrasing and the inspirational vocals. Following the title track, sharing the name with the CD title, listeners enjoy a mix of medium to up-tempo tracks of inspiration and encouragement such as “Peace Be Still” “Experience” and the two-part “Running Over.”

At the end of this musical ride, listeners wind down to an impressive instrumental rendition of the highly choreographed guitar solo of All is Well. Well-crafted music is timeless. Brightman’s piano ability is sure to inspire another generation of music lovers. Do not just take my word for it, listen for yourself.
